So how did the creature end up washing to shore on a boat? Was it one of the original 8 boats that attempted to fill and come over, and that was one that got attacked while still docked and didn't make it? In that case, weird timing that it would attack right when Regan and Emmett arrived...or did something they did cause the attack?
The real question is: why the islanders didn't make some kind of barricade around the island's shores to prevent a random boat (with possibly a monster on it) to reach the island? Or at least having some guards patrolling the shore all the time.
Exactly... you'd think these island folks would prepare some defense in case a monster could somehow get onto their island.. yet they just party around like no problem in the world for them and they are protected simply by being on this island.. geez..
Building a barricade around the island is a bit impractical, but yes for gods sake spotters and patrols!
These people are broadcasting their position and yet they have NO interest in seeing who's coming from the nearby mainland before who-knows-who gets to their bloody picnic ground?
On the subject of just anyone turning up, why on Earth would the crazies on the docks have never ventured out to that very nearby island, just to check it out ? All those boats to choose from and it just never occurred to them? Perhaps they had only just arrived in the area themselves, but I got the impression this was their stomping ground as they had traps set up.
I just watched this film and had the same problem. Between all those people they didn't think to try taking a boat out looking for somewhere safer even when there is safe haven island nearby? And they just remain there on the dock like sitting ducks after the noise was made, ready to be killed. People this dumb should not be surviving for so long.
It all felt like a contrived way to add some more tension.
