Surprised? I called it years ago that there was ZERO chance that this would ever get remade & not have a lesbian narrative crowbarred into it. Along with that, of course there's the phony revisionism involving the white protagonist (whose proclivity towards lesbianism makes her inherently understanding & virtuous) ends up being besties with a black woman athlete in the segregated Jim Crow era.

I hate woke as much as anyone, but to be fair, I can't help but believe a significant number of women players in that league were indeed lesbians.

You're right, some undoubtedly were. But in the 1940s they would have kept it as low-profile as possible, strictly private.

There were lesbians but they ran the risk of being sent to mental institution if they came out publicly. Homosexuality was still considered a mental illness back then.
