Every character is an asshole.

The problem with doing a period piece,(and I am using some leeway in calling a show set in the late 90's a period piece) is that the writers have trouble accurately capturing the overall mindset and dialogue of the time. There are many instances when 21st century ideals and lexicon are used, and it serves to make every character look either like an idiot, or some over-zealous reactionary for their time. Not to mention that the most ridiculous part of the plot is that ANYONE could or would rent a house in Shaker Heights for $300 dollars a month! Even in the 90's, if Shaker did have rentals, (most unlikely), they wouldn't be that fucking cheap. If that was the case I could have lived like a fat rat in Shaker and not have to deal with some jackass stealing my car or breaking into my $500 apartment (not house) in Parma.

Interesting.

Your title cracked me up. Yeah, I felt that I was watching a continuation of Big Little Lies, except that series was way better than this. It was good enough to binge, and I hear the book is good, with a different ending. The character Mia, always looked like she was snarling though..That grated on my nerves. I can watch Reese easily though..Shes a good actor and carries the scenes.

Her snarl almost reuined the entire series. It was awful..

lol yes it almost ruined it,,,and shes such a pretty woman too...but yes that snarl is pretty bad.

I forgot something Trip said, but it was clearly anachronistic. Then he said, "I just made that up right now"

I agree about every character being an asshole and that a lot of modern ideas were shoved into a mid 90's story, but it's not that you could just go and rent a house in Shaker Heights for $300. It was something Elena offered to "deserving people" as an act of goodwill since she clearly didn't need the money or house.
