Replay
Years ago there was a very good novel called Replay with a similar premise to this movie. An unhappy businessman with a failing marriage dies of a heart attack... and wakes up as his younger self twenty-five years in the past, armed with all the knowledge of what will happen in the world in the years to come.
Like this movie, he takes credit for inventions and investment which were originally the result of others. He enriches himself materially, but loses his wife and children she rejects him on the first day they meet (met).
He keeps dying on the same day of his life, but returns to the past, but less and less distant with each cycle. He keeps trying to fix the mistakes he made in previous iterations, but making things worse each time. And he knows he's running out of cycles.
It was a mix of Groundhog Day and The Butterfly Effect, but it came out well before both those movies. Very thought provoking and sad. Apparently, a script has been floating around Hollywood for a long time -- I read Ben Affleck was attached at one point -- but it has never been produced, probably because its running time would huge.
