I liked it, but... *MINOR SPOILERS*

There were some things that were disappointing to me.

First, their use of swear words. I think they used them maybe 6 or 7 times the whole movie. There are tons of choices, but every single one (except at the very end, where they didn't let the full phrase get out) it was taking the name of the Lord in vain. Most people won't care about this, but I did. They easily could have used other words in place of those, but didn't.

There are a few parts of the story they should have expanded on. First, we never really find out WHY things changed. I would have liked an explanation. I mean, the power went out, and that's when it happened. But what exactly caused it? They probably figured it would distract too much from his music story line and all that to get into it, but I want an explanation dammit.

I also thought it would have been nice if we saw more things that had changed. We saw a few, but mostly only for the comedic effect of him looking it up in a search to get something different as the main search hit, and a few quick scenes. It would have been nice to see the impact of the changes more than we did. He also doesn't "look" for other changes (except quick searches of other well-known bands), just kind of stumbles upon them. I'd be digging around for that crap.

Third, I thought they should have had more about the others who remember the music as well. I think they kind of threw them in to show him that he wasn't crazy and to ease his conscience for awhile (and for that whole Lennon bit), but other than them being in a few scenes freaking him out, and them dancing at the end it was kind of a mediocre part of the story. And how did they know they were the only 3 in the whole world who remembered? Billions of people in the world and the only three managed to find each other?

Overall it was a fun movie, better than a lot of the crap they're putting out these days, but timewise seemed long for the story we got out of it. I also have to admit I liked how they chose to do the ending. I was totally expecting something different, and would have been disappointed if they chose the typical route of it being a dream sequence or hallucinations while in a coma or something.

I feel ya on the ending. While I was watching the movie, I was predictcting a "Wizard Of Oz" kind of an ending. But all in all, went with the movie and enjoyed it anyway.

I wondered about the sci-fi behind it too, however i thoroughly enjoyed the film regardless

"There are a few parts of the story they should have expanded on."

Yep and all up it would have made a really good BBC type short 6 part series, it would be like if they made The Man In The Castle a 2 hour film instead of the series it is, there is just not enough time to tell this type of story properly. Anything that explores something happening to change history needs time and it's something I enjoy exploring/thinking about because so many minor things in history if a different path was taken could change what we know in many ways.

"I thought they should have had more about the others."

I saw them as nothing more than a plot device to make it easier to do the film, as it said that others remembered The Beatles so the influence The Beatles music had remained (well not Oasis lol).

*As let's face face it if the Beatles weren't around in the 60's inspiring other musicians and being inspired by them the music now would likely be vastly different and they'd have to reflect it in the film and create their own sounds for it. Even down to The Rolling Stones really, they got their big break chart wise when Lennon and McCartney gave them their song I Wanna Be Your Man, so had that not happened would The Rolling Stones ever have made for one small instance (may have may not have we'll never know).

However yeah it was still an enjoyable film that I was there for the ride during and got the old grey matter ticking over after for, so still worth it.

* There's a rather long post by me if interested on all that here: https://moviechat.org/tt8079248/Yesterday/5d12492c545b030d3b66eac7/Beatles-Music-in-the-Modern-World?reply=5d20203d87698c3b822b15b3

But that isn't the story they wanted to tell. That's a different movie. THIS movie was a story of THIS guy and THAT girl.

A solar flare caused the brief power outages and a weird change of world history involving the Beatles, Coke, cigarettes (and who knows what else). Jack was having a traumatic accident at the same time, which may have been the contributing factor for him to keep memory of how the world was before the change. As an explanation it indeed sounds weird and scientifically unsound, but this was not a movie about science.

As a scientist and Sci-Fi fan, I empathize with your points, but it was a plot device. Somewhat clever, but closer examination would have slowed the movie down and likely failed the scrutiny. All-in-all, I liked the movie as light summer fluffy entertainment. And that's fine, all films do not have to be deeply meaningful.
