Any appeal to non-basketball fans?
It's not a popular sport outside the USA
shareSurely you jest.
shareAnswer the goddamn question. Is it a movie only for people that watch NBA or not ?
shareI haven't seen it. I was only pointing out the massive global popularity of basketball.
sharemmm, don't know about that:-

Some popularity but not exactly massive...
Even the link you shared shows it as tied for 9th for popularity among all sports in the world. Here's a more reputable-looking article that places it 3rd in the world.
https://fadeawayworld.net/nba-media/basketball-named-3rd-most-popular-sport-in-the-world-with-over-2-billion-fans-worldwide
However you slice it, basketball is very popular globally, with a growing audience.
Yeah, tbh I thought 9th was probably a bit low on that list.
But obviously it depends on how they try to estimate, which in itself is interesting.
Personally I couldn't really believe it was third in the world - I've seen pockets in Europe where it's really big (e.g. Greece) but not everywhere.
Certainly couldn't see it ahead of football, cricket, tennis, hockey or golf but maybe somewhere not too far behind...
Plus I guess there's probably some difference in numbers of players vs number of viewers.
China has embraced basketball in a big way, and that has lead to some major growth.
shareWhat's funny reading these lists is that I had no idea Americans called hockey "field hockey"!
I guess just to differentiate it from ice hockey which, being the prevailing sport in America, has been shortened in common use to just be called hockey?
So they've had to add a prefix on to the original version to avoid confusion!
All it comes down to is that anywhere hockey is primarily played on ice, the term field hockey is used to describe the game when played on a field, and anywhere it's primarily played on grass, the term "ice hockey" is used.
shareTable Tennis being that high seems suspect.
shareI'm from a non-basketball country too and yeah it's a great movie.
shareYes.
I'm all about football(what you call soccer).
Played it on the streets, in football teams, semi-professionally and passionately watch it, and I help friends who are scouts and agents.
I know of NBA of course, but I don't follow it and can't name any players other than the biggest stars that make it into popular culture, such as Jordan, Kobe, Lebron, Iverson etc.
I enjoyed this movie. I realized that there are a lot of similarities between scouting football players and basketball players.
Regardless of country, I hate sports, and this was very enjoyable. Apparently there's tons of cameos and references that only sports fans would appreciate, but I liked it enough without giving a shit about any of that.
shareI'm baffled by the appeal of basketball, it just looks a mess to me.
Very enjoyable movie tho.
I've never had any interest in basketball and couldn't name one current player if my life depended on it, but I found "Hustle" to be a very entertaining movie.
shareBasketball is popular worldwide. There's a Euro league, a league in Spain, leagues in Turkey, Russia, Germany, Italy, France, the Balkans, Greece, Australia, Lithuania, China, the Phillippines, etc. There are over 100 countries with a national team or a league, and over 70,000 professional players around the globe. It's an international sport. There's at least one NBA player from 89 different countries.
shareIt's international alright. But it still niché
share1 basketball is popular all over the planet
2 this is a good movie, even if you do not like basketball
3 if you do not like basketball, it will actually make you like it
