is anyone watching season 2?

Is it interesting?

For some reason I can't get into this subject matter.

I am — but it is just too long. Too many episodes that make the same point.

And the whole 80's thing just isn't working for me in this instance, for some reason.

I'd rather it was some present-day story.

Although I will say that the acting is good. This is probably the most serious role I've ever seen Amanda Peet in.

I am sort of enjoying seeing the 1980’s fashions that I thought were so wonderful back in the day when I wore them. And yes, the acting is very good. The actor who plays Dan as a young man does an uncanny Christian Slater impression. THe woman who plays young Betty just misses the mark.
But it is such a sad story. No winners.
THe original Dirty John story was incredible. I was so impressed by that woman’s daughters— they were warriors. That was definitely a story for the new millennium.

A Christian Slater impression is really a Jack Nicholson impression. Slater got famous by impersonating Jack Nicholson.

You probably mean second season... Yes, I am watching. Few more episodes and I will finish it. I won't spoil, but comparing to first season it's weak. It's not bad, but it lacks the tension first season had. I remember, when I started watching first season, I got hooked from the very first episode, while here I didn't have such feeling. First two episodes felt quite slow. It starts getting better after episode 3, but overall it's not as interesting as the first one. This one is more about husband and wife's marriage/divorce and trial process. If I would give first season 10/10, I would give second season 6/10. Of course, everything I said is my opinion and some people might disagree with me, but this is honestly what I think about second season.

S1 and s2 are completely different types of stories.

S1
Clear cut villain
Clear cut victims
Triumphant ending

S2
Villain is not so clear cut
Acrimonious divorce with both parties claiming to be victims

Both parties are clearly very into clothing labels, showplace homes, expensive restaurants, club memberships, expensive automobiles, luxury watches, etc.

One party (wife) clearly exhibits unacceptable behavior, is out of control and acts out irrationally

The other party (husband) appears to be the “better” person but is guilty of cheating on his wife, gaslighting his wife, neglecting his marital and parental responsibilities until he has to play the “good parent” for the divorce

and there is no triumphant ending. Everyone’s lives are ruined, especially the children’s.

Well, all in all, is season 2 - something you would recommend watching?

reply

Yes I would. But it is different so adjust your expectations and you’ll be fine imo.
