Based on a true story...
Dateline did an episode on Dirty John. He truly was a scary person. I watched the first episode on Bravo and I loved it. I think everyone should watch this show; it's really good!!!!

shareI love this show too. Her daughters were smart to notice right away that John was shady. What smart girls. I'm kind of baffled though that their mom didn't catch on to him. I guess love is blind.
shareThe daughter who lived with her (Veronica) comes across as an absolute prima dona bitch. But she was spot-on about John.
But the mother seemed to be really really gullible, which is odd for someone who had such a successful career.
Honestly, when he showed up for date #1 wearing those cargo shorts, that would have ended things right there for me. It's not as if they were going on a hike or a picnic. It was the evening and they were going out for drinks. Not a keg party.
Yeah, she is a little too accepting of everything. I mean if he doesn't make any effort even for the first date, when people are normally on their "best behavior", what can you expect from such a person down the road?
And why on earth did she take him back after that fit he threw at the end of the date? That was a massive red flag if I ever saw any. I mean, seriously, woman, you are in your 50's already, and this man made you feel unsafe in your own home. You should really know better.
Unfortunately we even have guys who go to mass in cargo shorts and t shirts.
shareI agree that her daughters were smart about noticing what John really was, but the younger one, Terra, she seemed a little unhinged. I understand that she was not happy about John coming to Christmas, but to go into the other room and throw herself on the bed and bawl like an entitled Disney princess was a bit of an overreaction. Also, in the hospital after she killed John, the way she was talking to the detective about the zombie apocolypse and how she knew John, was just weird. I probably would've lead with: "This asshole tried to kill me and I fought back."
