Plot Hole or Inconsistency? SPOILER!!

Was Paimon ever in Charlie to begin with? Yes I know everyone thinks that he was or some part of him was in her, but her being female wasn't ideal. But if that's the case then why did Charlie "see the light"? That light that traveled about in the film to show I guess Paimon's spirit trying to find a host.

In the end we see the "light" once again finally shine on & stop on Peter's dead body & then "enter" it. But once more if Pai was in Charlie the whole time then why would she even see it outside of her to begin with? Meaning I don't believe he was capable of leaving her if he was already in her (unless she was dead) to go & try. That doesn't make sense but maybe someone here has a explanation.

I came here ready to ruin you but that's actually a good question lol.
Maybe, Paimon isn't nessacerily "in her" but with her? And in control of her?
I'm not sure in all honesty but that's a thought provoking question and I'll definitely be wondering this the next time I see it.

The way I interpret it, the entity reincarnates as Charlie but since she isn't a proper vessel (male), he doesn't manifest himself totally.

The look in the boy's eyes in the end is puzzling though. It seems he's shocked and about to cry and not satisfied with an adequate body as he should be.

Yes I found that odd too. I was expecting the same sly smile when Peter saw himself in the classroom.

I just watched it, but his look was so mystified, I thought it meant that the "real Peter" was, possibly, still partially in control of his body and perplexed by all the decidedly strange events/occupants in the treehouse.
