Why did the father catch on fire after the wife set the book ablaze?
shareNot really sure. I'm guessing the demon wss just manipulating the situation and made her believe it would be her instead.

Glad when he left the screen. His continued disbelief even after he had witnessed multiple supernatural phenomena was an annoying horror trope.
shareWhile I can see your point and tend to agree, it is a tired trope, I think that scene could have played out MUCH better if he refused to throw the notebook in the fireplace because he didn't want her to die. Then she take it from him and throws it in there and he tries to stop her. Also, even though he witnessed supernatural things, he was trying to hold onto his beliefs and sanity. Though in that scene, they did make it so he thought she was insane and that was the only issue.

I found her response to be the most realistic. I don't think most people would take witnessing supernatural phenomena as lightly as the father and son did. share
Idk if this is true and I'm not gonna rewatch the movie to see, but when she first out the book in the fire, wasn't she wearing a jacket of some sort? Could it be that the jacket was her husband's? Hear me out. The jacket itself was what caught on fire, not her skin. And if it was his item then it would make sense why a small part of the jacket caught fire. But, I mean it could also have been the demon doing that to make her believe that she would be sacrificing herself when really it would be sacrificing the husband to get him out of the way?
