Better than I expected

My bullshit detector was on full alert when I pressed play. In fact, I expected to turn it off once getting a general sense for things. While not a really dynamic or innovative doc from a storytelling or technical point of view, it seemed to all hold together. More importantly the story felt genuine— and this was where I thought it was going to fail.

I will say, I was surprised by how little the band’s influence seemed to have on Dan’s attitude, lifestyle and relationship with his wife and kids. It didn’t go deep enough to get a really good read on this, but there were still points where I was shocked at how normal and typically Mormon Dan and his family appeared to be. (I say this more as a compliment than anything.)
