...those sweeping aerial CGI vista shots were still gonna impress the audience.

Not gonna lie, this movie legit threw me back onto early 2000s movies like Gladiator, Crouching Tiger, Troy or Alexander. Great times, lol.

Perhaps t'was Sir Kenneths intention all along.. To make the movie as if it was 20y ago.. nostalgia for an earlier, happier time (perhaps for himself as well as the audience)

I'm aware, I was specifically referring to that era where we once got historical epic films pretty regularly. Adding Kingdom of Heaven and Last Samurai to the OP's list.

Last Samurai doesn't really have prominent CGI aerial shots tho'.
