Season One Episode Seven - SPOILERS

I'm not a fan of the show and this episode was weak. I've continued watching the show to see how wacky it gets and to figure out the identity of Sauron. I consider this show to be vandalism of Tolkien's literary work since the writers ignored the lore and made up their own characters.

Isildur eventually becomes a king who bears the one ring so it's pointless to have Isildur missing in battle.

It's too early to wake up the balrog and it seems odd that a leaf would drop all the way to the bottom of the cavern. The balrog in Moria kills Durin VI in the THIRD AGE so I don't think the balrog should be appearing this early. It could be some sort of foreshadowing.

Prince Durin is crying like a baby again. It's also out of character for Durin to now consider Elrond his brother even though he turned him away a few episodes ago.

The harfoots have zero common sense. The three pale elves effortlessly burnt all their carts and the harfoots now decide to go after meteor man to help him against the all-powerful pale elves. I'm also disappointed that the identities of the pale elves in white robes have not been revealed.

I don't understand why there was text on the screen showing Southland turning into Mordor. They've been talking about Mordor since the beginning of the show and most everybody knows that Mount Doom is in Mordor. I thought Adar could have said Mordor BUT I still don't know if Adar's role in the plot to create Mordor. Adar said he killed Sauron but I thought the orcs were supposed to be the minions of Sauron.

The final episode of season one is next week and I'm hoping that all of the mysteries will be revealed. I mainly want to know the identity of Sauron, Halbrand, Meteor Man, Adar and the pale elves. I'll be disappointed if the writers do not answer all of my questions in the
final episode.

Meteor Man is Gandalf
Halbrand is Sauron
The pale dudes are some other made up crap that has no relation to actual Tolkien lore. There, saved you and hour of your life.

No none of this makes sense or squares with the actual timeline of Tolkein’s work. So what else is new?

We all know Isildur will come back because he's crucial to LoTR but where is he right now? Probably somewhere meant to give us more story. I wouldn't say it's pointless.

I personally really liked the Southland arc. At the beginning I was all, what are these Southlands? This isn't in the book! Who is this Halbrand guy who is king of the Southlands? And then the volcano explodes. The text showing Southland turning into Mordor is paying off the setup of the whole southland area. Actually I loved it and I really hope we get to see how Mordor became the place we know from LotR, where Shelob comes in, and everything.

The harfoots are annoying, I give you that.

The writers are setting up a suspenseful cliffhanger regarding Isildur's fate and Elendil is even crying like a baby over the loss of his son. It's even more comical that the horse is racing after Isildur to rescue him. I just think it's unnecessary to have a cliffhanger for characters like Isildur and Galadriel since they do appear in LOTR. The writers have already demonstrated that they are incapable of giving us more story.

I thought southlands was just a generic term for the lands in the south. I just didn't understand why Adar couldn't say Mordor instead of having text on the screen. The southlands story is interesting BUT it was not written by Tolkien. The writers created Halbrand, Arondir, Bronwyn and Theo to concoct an origin story of Mordor. I would have preferred that they focused on Tolkien's stories from the second age but they may not have the rights to all the characters.

Yeah it seems they don't have rights to all that much, which is a bit worrying. I read they don't have rights to use Gandalf? Ouch. Guess he's not guy-who-fell-from-the-sky then. Mordor was always a weird shape, way too rectangular to feel natural. So I liked that they came up with an origin story for Mordor. I don't know why they wrote it on the screen but maybe it was impossible to film Adar saying, "I know! I'll call it.... MORDOR BWAHAHAHAHA!!!" without looking very silly.

We know Galadriel survived the volcano but I loved the explosion; it looked cool.

I like Arondir. Not to put too fine a point on it but he's good-looking and muscular and I'm ok with that! (Elendil is also quite dishy, and the same age as my husband, I'm happy about that too). Bronwyn on the other hand, well...

I see your point that we know Isildur survives so we all know that pretending he's dead is a big fakeout. After they find him, they need to come up with something good to explain what he was doing while he was missing.

I'm totally prepared to be disappointed by this show because Tolkien's moral vision is so different than the left-wing moral vision that's prevalent in entertainment. I get that shows can't have everyone be paragons of virtue. Perfect people are boring. Characters have to have flaws. But you can often tell that shows are pushing a particular view of morality by the subtext and by what characters are favored or disfavored. If the show begins crossing the lines of the morality Tolkien would have endorsed I will switch off immediately. So far it's been ok. The changes they have made have been off-canon but have not offended me. I really, really like that there has not been overt sexuality because it means I can watch with my kids. That's a whole nother story but if they start putting in overt sexuality I will immediately switch off.

This was the most boring episode so far. Galadriel continues to be the most annoying character. I assume they didnt plan her to be this awful and horrible but the actress is just so bad and unlikable. I mean they did countless screen tests, there were other actresses. How on earth they could pick her? She has zero charisma. Cant act at all. Her Galadriel has no personality and at this point she just has unhealthy obsession with Sauron.

I laughed so hard when they showed that Queen with eye patch being blind from something. I missed why she got blind. Here there were those Numenor people living happily on their island. Then crazy Galadriel shows up and orders them to ship somewhere she wants, for her revenge obsession. For some reason they listen to crazy, with queen herself sailing too. Then queen lost her eyesight and now sits and still graciously kisses Galadriel arse while all of this is because of her.
