Is this saying something like ...


to succeed in "the white man's world" you have to basically be a brilliant monster?

I mean, I really do not get this movie, and I wonder why anyone would think up such a story to tell?

It is all this black drama in the middle of a white world who are supposedly trying to accept him, but also treating every other black person in the movie abominably. WTF?

I think you are reading too much into it. If you check, blacks in the movie were not being treated differently by anyone apart from Harriet. She was hell-bent on punishing the mediocre students (De Shaun) and idolizing the good ones (Luce). For her, there's no in-between. And that's why Luce acts out.
