Actually not bad

I went into this film with very low expectations since Carano's direct-to-video movies in the past have mostly been some real SHIT, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's still not a top-tier film by any means, but it's competently made and features some nice scenery and some solid performances, even from Carano.

I think Gina is not naturally a good actor, but with the right direction she can turn in a decent performance. Her performances have varied a good bit throughout her acting career, with Haywire probably being her high point whereas she was operating on high-school-acting-class level in some of her DTV films.

My main complaint about this film is that it's a little slow and drags a bit in the middle. But if you enjoy action thrillers, nice wintry Canadian scenery, cool wolf action, and/or Gina Carano then it's worth giving a look.

These were literally the only reasons we had to watch this, it ticked a lot of boxes for my wife, and ultimately because it was a very, very average film, these were the only elements that sustained our interest.

I feel you.

Frankly, for Gina's DTV stuff, very very average is a step up.

I thought there were individual elements that were genuinely cool, though. You can't beat that scenery, and the fact that they shot the whole film amongst a beautiful jagged snowscape is pretty cool. I really liked all the wolf stuff as well, along with the fact that they kind of went old school with it, using real wolves and old fashioned editing techniques instead of CGI.

Lastly, I'll just say that if you had told me 10 years ago that Gina Carano would on day be co-starring with a Richard fucking Dreyfuss in a movie like this I'd have called you a liar. But alas, it happened.

Just saw this and have to say it's no oscar winner but o.k for an action/revenge movie, i put this in similar league of Braven, Cold pursuit, The Grey, so if you enjoy that type of movie then this ain't half bad.

I didn't even realise that Richard Dreyfuss was actually Richard Dreyfuss thought it was some lookalike person.

reply

Cool, glad you liked it well enough.

And yeah that was the real Richard Dreyfuss, believe it or not. I really wonder how he ended up on a project like this. Maybe at his age the offers just aren't what they used to be.

reply

I doubt i would have watched it if i had better movies to look forward to but as a dry spell of decent movies it was time filler and it did its job.
