I don't get why it's a prequel-spinoff of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
It's not a "franchise" like Star Trek, Harry Potter, Marvel, not even The Conjuring.

I was not aware that Ryan Murphy was involved, but even if I had not read his name
in the opening credits... the cast and what was being shown on screen
(the style of violence and sex)... feels like another season of American Horror Story.

Are they actually reusing Bernard Herrmann music or is it original music based on Bernard Herrmann style?

Hopefully some things will start making sense as the season moves along, but so far
the tone-style of this series has absolutely no relation with the movie.

Did anyone get some The Shining vibes when she arrived at the hospital?

I doubt it has much in common with the film. Dont forget the film was not exactly like the book. Except for the character of Ratched there is probably no other connection.

Well, they did a series for Norman Bates, so why not this.

Neither film needed a prequel, a sequel, or a series. They were complete stories in themselves, having said everything that had to be said about their characters & their themes. Prequels, sequels, spinoffs, and series are all evidence of an utter lack of imagination, as well as turning distinct pieces of art into product to be mined until the original source material means nothing.

Disclaimer: It's been over 15 years since I've seen One Flew... and I barely remember most of it.

My impression was that this is going to be like a character study of nurse Ratchet. Her decent into darkness or whatever. But she started off pretty dark, soooo... Just in general something doesn't feel right in the way they're developing her character.

As for the music, I don't know if it's "original" Bernard Herrmann, but it's pretty good. Shame it doesn't fit with the style of the show.

I watched the first episode last night, being a fan of Paulson's work for a long time. I didn't find it great, yet I couldn't shut it off. It intrigued me - and I enjoyed the rest of the cast (especially Judith Davis as 'Nurse Bucket' and sexy Corey Stoll). I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series over the next week or so - this is not one I can binge watch.

I'm curious as to why they used so much blue, green and teal in the first episode - from the car she was driving to the interiors of the hospital and her uniform. I'm sure there's a reason which will be revealed...
