This isn't scary? The first movie wasn't so scary, neither

I don't know why people bash this movie for not being scary, I found a few moments quite startling in it when I first saw them, like Paul Bunyan and the Witch, but the fear factor wore off quickly, like any horror movie. But then again, there were creatures in the first movie that weren't scary, neither, like the Leper, the Headless Boy, the Mummy and especially the Clown Room.

The only creature design that creeped me out the most was Judith, the Painted Lady. There's just something about the warped face and sharp teeth that is disturbing. Even after all this time, staring at a still of it still bothers me.

This is part of the problem, that these two movies are rated R/15 and yet don't have truly scary moments but plenty of gore, blood and bad language, but then I think that was always the intention, and that these movies were more about the characters and their attempts to overcome their fear and defeat evil. It was these character moments when Pennywise scares them that was the most fun and thrilling, with the "will he/won't he" threat of being eaten. This is what the writers and director intended.

Honestly some moments were plenty scary to me, and I am not easily shocked or anything.

It seems I'm not scared easily, but this movie still has the power to scare. That's great!

I wonder what it would be like to have Coulrophobia?

I think the scare of IT (book, mini-series & this movie are scary in two different ways and one is psychological. If you have read the book you understand that IT takes the form of what frightens you. So think of what you were scared of as a child? Say you were scared of dolls. My sister had a pretty creepy & I got even more scared when I saw the movie trailer for Child's Play. I had nightmares of not Chucky but my sister's doll killing me. So what if that doll came out of my own fear and spoke to me the way IT does in the book & movies? Then many years later as an adult, that doll returns? I think the first reaction would be to ask if I was losing my mind! As they say in the book and movies "This isn't real!" Then you find out your friends are also losing their minds? Maybe it is real? Honestly, this to me is very frightening.

I also agree Pennywise is more frightening in these two movies than the mini-series. I'm watching the mini-series right now. I adore Tim Currey and he does an excellent Pennywise but the updated Pennywise is way scarier. I do think though that Pennywise needs to be a little funny and silly to attract the kids as he did with Georgie and the little girl at the start of the movie.
