I hated the jokes and the joking throughout. There wasn't enough of Pennywise and when he did show up it was more for a laugh than a scare. Not sure why they chose a homophobic scene in the beginning of the movie. There were a few good effects, but most of the movie relied on boring flashbacks and boring characters. Finally, the movie was too long. I don't mind long movies, but this one needed to be edited down to maybe 2 hours 15 minutes.

Adults are harder to scare than children, so I think that he's "having a bit of fun with" and toying with the adult Losers.

It was in the book, it shows that IT thrives in an atmosphere of hate and bullying, and is willing to chow down on adults as well as children. But the negativity is counterbalanced by Richie and Eddie's strong positive relationship.

They had to remember their childhoods fully in order to finally defeat Pennywise. It takes a while, but I think they're rather fun, the encounters. I wasn't bored once.

Many people say this, yet they're willing to sit through other long movies. It baffles me.
I did like the first one more. It seemed gloomier and the situations were more dire.
Yes, OK, I get that Pennywise is messing with them, but he just isn't in enough of the movie. Whenever he appeared, I enjoyed those scenes.
Oh, I see why they chose a homophobic scene. I didn't read the book. I read all of King's earlier novels, but stopped after reading Firestarter.
I still didn't care for the flashbacks, even though you say they were needed. If anything needed to be cut, it would be the flashbacks. I think that the director could have gotten a better result without so much.
As I said, I like movies over two hours as long as the material justifies it all. I just didn't think this movie needed to be as long. I was getting bored with it all and when the final battle came, I may have enjoyed it more if the movie hadn't bored me so. I just wanted it to be over.
Anyhow, I am not here to pick a fight with anyone, but I just think that a lot of potential was wasted here. Sometimes movies draw you in and sometimes they don't; you don't always know why.
After watching this at the theatre I agree that it DID feel waaaaay too long. The tone of the movie was too indecisive I find.. there's the bleachers sequence that felt dark and scary and then there's the rest of the film that just felt hilarious (in a bad way)
Pick a lane director and f*** stick with it. The whole experience felt like a joke.
Except for a few good scenes, the rest of it felt hollow. I kept checking the time. That's when you know the movie is not that good.

shareI feel so cheated because Chapter I (2017) started off amazing! The piano tune, Georgie, Pennywise in the sewer .. it was the perfect atmosphere.
Then the film went off the rails.. Chapter II was just all around bad : (
I know. This is the problem with movies today; the studios really don't care about how good or bad a movie is. They know people are going to go see it regardless of the quality. Until the public starts demanding that they make movies better, we will continue to get these awful movies. The only was to send a message to the studios is to just not go to these movies until they make movies that are worth spending money on.
shareI totally agree w you about the beginning scene, I was like am I in the right theater. I felt like the CGI sucked and was not needed at all if they would have just used Pennywise. Pennywise was basically a joke in this movie and was barely there. Bad move. I did find Bill Hader jokes funny. The movie was a bit drawn out some scenes could have been cut short. The original movie was great. The first remake was okay, this movie was watchable and yet forgettable.
shareI actually liked the opening but it was definitely too long. I think the big problem is that you knew the 6 characters were going to survive until the final showdown with Pennywise so the individual story arcs of them going to retrieve their artifacts began to feel stagnant and redundant. Taken individually, any of those scenes were pretty good (Bev visiting her old apartment imo was the best) but all together they were tiresome (guess the whole is less than the sum of its parts in this case). Agree that a 2:15 runtime would've been great. If there's one area part 2 of the original miniseries got right, it was making it much more straightforward with the gang coming back to fight the clown and not going off on the artifact tangents.

I liked it. For something made for TV in the early 90s I thought it was well above average and I'm happy to tune in whenever I come across it. I don't see myself watching the theatrical release of It Chapter 2 again at any point sadly (man I really wanted to love this movie).
shareWhy? Many reviews I've seen ditch the dated miniseries and embrace this new one. I'd rather put up with the movie's minor flaws than the massive flaws of the miniseries.
To me it was a fun movie and I liked the actors involved. Just my personal opinion, I get why people might not like it but it was enjoyable for me. Maybe it is a bit dated but so am I ;)
I loved the theatrical release of Chapter 1 as well but part 2 just dragged for me and many of the scenes, while not necessarily boring on their own, felt pointless. Maybe my expectations were too high because this was probably my most anticipated movie of the Summer but it just fell flat for me.
I love all the actors in the theatrical pair of movies, and this was my most anticipated movie of the YEAR, and I was only disappointed by the mixed critic reviews, and the negative views here. I figured it wouldn't be as good as the first movie, but then the same cast and crew were behind both, and the original book was weaker with the adults anyway.
I think it's bound to be weaker when it's the adults' story because a clown terrifying children is scarier than a clown terrifying adults. Part 1 (of both the miniseries and theatrical) was easy to view through the eyes of a 12 year old. I though the actors in the theatrical release in part 2 were very good with Bill Hader being exceptional (funny what a good actor he turned out to be).
Anyway glad you liked it and I really do wish I felt the same.
