Many effective ways to wipe out the Vesps.

First off, why didn't the father use the wood chipper a few times every day? It clearly was an effective manner to kill dozens of them at a time. If he had used it several times a day then he could have cleared out the entire area in little time. But he used it once and never tried it again.

Another thing is since these creatures use hearing, high pitched sonic waves could have been used to disrupt their equilibrium and send them crashing to the ground.

Or even large traps over a large body of water with a sound device attached. The device makes noise, the creatures fly into the trap, trap door shuts, trap submerges and drowns the Vesps.

Large traps with electrical current going thru it. Attract the Vesps with noise, they fly in, door shuts, electrical current starts, Vesps either get electrified s they bump into the walls or they slowly tire out and collapse and get electrified.

Poison. Attrack them to a large area filled with poisoned meats and flesh and let them eat. They'd be dead in days.

Nerve gas and toxins. Same as above.

Other traps could use fire, sand, glue, cement, etc.

The point is that I'm not seeing any way these creatures could have survived against Humans who can lure and kill them with something as simple as a whistle. They certainly wouldn't drive Humanity to the edges of the planet. And even if they did, how much food and resources would they consume before having to resort to cannibalism and driving themselves to the brink of extinction?

Another thought. By the end of the movie it could be assumed that the vast majority of other wildlife had been wiped out. So how much longer before these creatures would have destroyed the eco-system due to wiping out species that are critical to life on this planet and made the planet inhospitable to themselves and other life? These are just a few thoughts that came to mind as I watched this. These types of animals would not survive very long.
