Over hyped, Overrated

It's a good depressing comedy but I wouldn't rate this anything more than a 6 out of 10 at Most...

No you’re just a rich bully so you didn’t like the movie.

Lols 😂😂😂

Watch it again.

We'll do but not anytime soon..

reply

Now that the hype is over, maybe you should watch it again and maybe you'll realise it ain't that good lol.

reply

R u stupid? He already won an award. Seen it 10 times and every time gets better.

reply

"Seen it 10 times and every time gets better." And you ask if I'M stupid? lmao
The film isn't that good, kid and the awards mean absolutely nothing today.

Finally watched it tonight. Kinda agree. It was ok. I wouldn't be interested in watching it again. Anymore, something has to be really good to catch my attention. Disclaimer: I'm not a huge fan of superhero movies and only saw this on recommendation from a friend and some youtubers I respect. It didn't suck, but I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater.
6-7 at best. I'm a huge fan of Joaquin Phoenix. His performance was very good as usual. Looked good, good technical qualities etc. Just the sum of the whole isn't as good as the pieces.

reply

My point Exactly...

reply

That's disappointing. I'm not a superhero movie fan either, and also like Joaquin. I thought this looked promising and wanted to see it. An interesting character study with some real potential for a great performance.

Well, I'll probably still see it, but will lower my expectations.

reply

It's not "Shape of water" bad at least.

reply

Then maybe there's hope I'll like it because our tastes are different. I liked The Shape of Water.

Still, I'm going to keep my expectations low.

reply

Watched it last night. I had high expectations given the hype and audience response. I found it ok but quite flat and didn't really see much point to it. I like the poor vs rich aspect but even that was muddled he was after all beaten at the start by poor kids and the 3 guys he killed on the subway was more because of his first beating and now being in possession of a gun.

reply

True that...

This movie is why I don't pay attention to reviews or online hype.

It was pretty good.. not great.

Definitely not in my top 50.

Half of the scenes are just Joaquin Phoenix looking sad or bashing his head against the wall, or dancing, or "slowly going insane" which we've seen a thousand times before.. I will say that his performance is what saved this movie for me.. The dude is a PHENOMENAL actor. Possibly the best of his generation. I'm not saying that lightly. He's been in some bad movies, but it was never his fault. He is captivating on screen.

The end was completely predictable, however..

7.5/10

Expect a lot of backlash on this thread. People will adamantly declare this one of the greatest movies of all time. To each their own, but I personally expected more.

To be fair, I think Joker is a lame character to begin with, so that might account for my lack of expectation.

reply

Yeah I have to agree. I think the hype killed it for me. Phoenix was amazing but the movie was just above average, not bad but not great either. I'll propably check it out again sometime in the future to see if I missed something. 6,5/10

comedy?

yeah, it's safe to say you didn't pay attention

reply

Alright...

reply

Yeah, I agree. Kinda meh...

Interesting experiment but not one that excites me enough for a sequel.

I felt it just hammered us over the head with Fleck's psychological issues. Phoenix' downtrodden Joker takes everything personally... I didn't see what would motivate him to become a master criminal. He himself admits that he doesn't much care about the chaos he has set in motion.

Ledger's Joker though was all about turning people against each other and watching the world burn. We don't know what his motivation is beyond that but it was more interesting to watch.

Nor does this explain how Fleck becomes smart enough to become a super-criminal... y'know, all the trappings like bombs, intricate plans, organizing a gang... We don't see any evidence that Fleck is any sort of genius.

Plus the age difference between future Batman and Joker... there's more than 30 years between them. By the time Batman starts his career (late-20s which is optimistic), Joker will be about 60, racing between crime scenes in his mobility scooter.

I do applaud this movie for its depiction of Thomas Wayne. Here he's an unsympathetic douchebag... how that influences his son would make for an interesting movie perhaps. Instead of a Batman motivated by revenge we'd get a Batman trying to make up for the 'sins of the father'.

Very well said.... I agree with you 100%
