Yeah, this feels like a typical case of DC overstepping. They saw success with the Marvel formula, so they tried to change their movies to emulate that style, and it didn't work. Now an original take is a huge success, most likely due to its originality, which is exactly what sequels aren't.

It's not a bad system, it usually goes awry when the studio and producers think

Movie make money > my creative input that wasn't used made the movie make money> my mandatory creative decisions will make next movie make even more money.
