Successful because there's no affordable health care in the US. People can relate to the abandoned

Arthur Fleck is cast out of society like so many with bad health. Broke, despairing, witless. Not so Arthur, who seeks and finds revenge on "the man" by becoming the Joker.

Great escapism for the people who buy lottery tickets for a pension plan.

Maybe people will vote a little more socialist next year.

reply

does that make this film "woke"?

reply

There's no upside for the common folk. Are you common folk?

reply

I'm not rich if that's what you mean.

But you didn't answer my question. In your opinion, is this film "woke"?

reply

No. That anti abortion movie "it could happen to you" or whatever was "woke" because it's trying to push pro-lifers as social injustice fighters.

Joker is just a sad story with a killer ending.

reply

I'm sure those socialist Democraps would ban Joker under the new Hayes Act!

reply

Pray for your health dude.

reply

He's SATAN!

Who is he supposed to "pray" to? God?

reply

Can't pray to himself, can he?

reply

I don't think so but maybe he can. I know he has a lot of power.

reply

Is that why the elites from socialist countries come here for their surgeries?

Yeah...socialism's the answer.

reply

? Elites go to wherever the best doctors are, independent of the political system.
The non-elites (the masses) still have good healthcare in the more socialist western democracies. So if you're not elite then you're better off voting more socialist.

reply

Oh, ok thanks. Sounds good. There won't be any waiting lists for life-threatening conditions under this new(old) system will there? Because I'm one of the common folk for sure!

reply

Maybe, it will probably take a while to change the system. Your healthcare cost twice as much as elsewhere, they gotta limit the profit margins first.

reply

So is there a "socialist party" I need to vote for or just vote Democrat?

reply

The US typically leads the world in rapid change. So you're probably best off voting for a socialist and not for the democrats. After the war, up until the Reagan years, the US had great improvements for all with unions and middle class and stuff. Maybe it can come back.

reply

Yeah...Mick Jagger came here for his heart-valve replacement. I wonder why he didn't get in done in the U.K.?

And why the hell did Bernie Sanders get those stints using this awful system he hates? He LOVES Cuba's health care system...couldnt he have traveled a couple of hours for superior care?

reply

Are you as rich as them? Then why do you try to compare yourself with them?

reply

You're right...Bernie Sanders IS rich isn't he?!?! He's just been a "servant of the people" his whole life, too!

How did that happen? And he's a Socialist to boot!

Weird.

reply

You need to be rich to become president. It doesn't matter if you're a socialist or a conservative. Don't you want your leaders to be able to get things done?

reply

Are you European?

reply

Of course

reply

Well...you said we don't have "affordable health care in the US". I'm glad you informed me of this allllll across that great big Atlantic Ocean because I thought I DID have affordable health care damn it! I've been living an illusion.

And...say...wasnt this film even a bigger hit outside of the U.S.? Are they frustrated with their socialised medicine in Europe as well? It's a monster hit over in your neck of the woods you know?

reply

Didn't know it was a hit here, too! But about that health care: good for you.
Would you go into debt on some long term disease, though? That's a big difference with what we have here

reply

I'm sure I'd incur some degree of debt.

reply

Small price to pay to save my life with the best health care the world has to offer. I'd feel more confident getting treatment here than any other country on earth.

reply

Well why change when you're happy? Good luck to you.

reply

Thank you!

reply

A rich "Socialist" that's only had a government job his whole life.

That damned capitalism!

reply

Capitism is ok, just not unbridled capitalism. Mix it with some socialism so you get educated people who can buy the products they produce.
Itt not just black and white ffs

reply

You "get educated people" by mixing socialism into your capitalism?

Hmmmm...i think we've been doing that increasingly for many decades now.

I'm not sure it has worked, tbh.

Oh well...maybe we should just scrap all of the capitalist remnants that remain.

reply

We're losing our benefits fast in Europe as well because of rampant capitalism and populist fear mongering. But no one should just roll over and give up.

reply

How 'bout that free health care illegals get in our emergency rooms all over the country. They can not be turned away by law.

Are they some of the "common folk" you say can't get "affordable" care in this country?

reply

Yes they are. Emergency care is hardly a good example of sustained medical care during one's life, is it?
Compare a twelve hour wait with a coughing child with fever on your lap in an ER to a house call from a doctor with labour and medication paid for at 200 euros a month insurance.

reply

People can relate to the abandoned not only because there's no affordable health care in the US.

Well, I feel sad if I saw an abandoned dog when I was never being abandoned in my whole life.

And I'm not even a dog.

reply

I feel sad.too with that dog. But I don't feel related to it's situation. I would when I had been homeless.

reply

I think the movie succeeds because the acting was good.

reply

Then I must watch it someday!

reply

Please do. Movie is great, not a typical comicbook movies.

Oh, I see you're an European. Are mental health services real good there?

reply

I would have to look that up. I believe it's in decline.
