from the theater. Hard to go into it without spoiling.
Not what I was expecting -- but there's both good and bad with that. And the influences mentioned are there but they get cooked into something different.
12 screens, 2 were showing Joker. I've never noticed a security person -- but I haven't been to that complex in a long time. Based on what he was wearing, it seemed like a different level of security -- like an outside hire.
Most reviews out have said that you can see the nods and similarities too Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver through out the movie. I saw it tonight and agree with OP.
My usual cinemas had raised the prices, as they would for a really big blockbuster release, but the cinema was pretty empty which surprised me.
It actually was kind of what I was expecting from.the trailers, and I had avoided spoilers, but I don't think it quite hit the mark for me overall.
Joaquin (and De Niro) gave a great performance, but apart.from.a few strong scenes it just felt a bit disappointing, as though I have seen that kind of story a number of times before, and they just attached it to the Jokers character.
Definitely a must watch, as it's a movie to have an opinion on, which is quite rare these days,, and I can see folk getting quite diverse reactions to it, but for me it just didn't quite do what it felt like it was trying to achieve.
Like I mentioned above, I don't like giving a final rating after one viewing -- but I don't disagree about the ambition not being fully realized. But what I didn't expect is hard to articulate without spoilers.
