Surprised that Chuck Lorre was involved in something of this quality.

I only know of his recent work on Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory and other basic network sitcoms. So, if he's written great stuff in the past I wouldn't know. I've looked at his IMDb credits and nothing caught my eye as being something I'd heard of receiving critical or audience acclaim.

Anyway, this series is pretty good, not amazing but one major plus it has going for it is that the main characters come across as believable people. That's partially due to the acting of course.

"The Big Bang Theory" was good until they brought in girlfriends and made the whole show about them berating the guys.

I think it's network vs. streaming. On a TV network, the priority was usually on mass appeal, which means you deliver a product that as large an audience as possible will say is "decent" or "pretty good". If your "pretty good" beats out the other (few-in-number) networks' shows, then congratulations, you have a "hit".

On a streaming service, you're competing against everything. There's no sense in appealing to everybody, so don't dumb it down for the lower-tiered common denominators, shoot for something somebody really wants to watch.

Chuck Lorre is obviously a really talented writer and creator. He's just had to filter his talent through a lens of "acceptable".
