why this series picked up after the events of the original trilogy instead of the superior remake in 2010? It would have been more interesting if the series was based off the 2010 remake. At least the karate kid would still have his mentor, Mr Han around. I really hope the reason is not white supremacy and because Jaden Smith is black?

The main reason is probably that the remake is a bag of shit and the original is a classic.
Apart from that can't think of another reason.

I can't for the life of me understand why KK 2010 wasn't a Best Picture Oscar finalist.

It was mentioned in the movie however the title is The Karate Kid. I liked this film better. The setting in China made for a better film I feel
