Does the Karate on the show look real?
I waxed a few cars and painted a few fences and now that I've watched the show I feel like I could win the next All Valley tournament.

shareFirst you must sand the floor
shareThis was in the trivia section: "Most of the Cobra Kai students have experience in martial arts as actual black belts or advanced trained dancers."
Apparently highly trained dancers are now Mixed Martial Artists.
My dojang had a highly trained dancer. His flying kicks were spectacular!!!
shareJackie Chan, Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung all did peking opera and learnt there fancy acrobatic stuff from that as well as martial arts, so dancers are very flexible and can make the high kicks look better then a martial artist but the martial artist can put power behind it.
Abit like how body builders can have big muscular bodies but rarely compete in a strong man competition because its more about mental strength and toughness, then big biceps.
Not really. I mean, there's stuff they're doing that are real traditional karate techniques, but the fights have always been pretty fantasy-based; and the show has magnified that. It's like watching a Power Rangers episode. It's fun, but not realistic AT ALL. Hell, watch the old movies. Pat Morita can barely move, LOL.
shareThe movies were never realistic so why should the show be?
shareHonestly I didn't find the onscreen fighting skills of any of the students to be all that visually impressive Maybe the Miguel actor? Or it could just be that the narrative positioned him as the best fighter. The fight choreography isn't great but I don't think really tries to be. Interestingly the person who looks like the most convincing fighter on the show in general is still easily William Zakba which was also the case in the original Karate Kid while Machio was pretty terrible.
