Was his toy rocket an actual 70's toy?

How did he cut the grabber so deep with it?
The multiple bulbs and the continuously bright light seems like more modern tech.

I was a child in the 70's and flashlights sucked. Large dim and short lasting.

He should have used the pointed end and stabbed Ethan Hawke in the neck at the carotid artery. He would have bled out and would have been at least unconscious very quickly, then dead.
