A little underwhelming but not a bad film.
I can't fault much of it.
The acting was good, the cinematography was good, the pacing and story were good enough. It kept me intrigued, entertained and was a decent concept. A competent film in all aspects but it just lacks that X factor. Little in the way of scares is one flaw.
Add this to the list of recent Horror films that have higher ratings on IMDB than genre darlings due to mainstream appeal and complete competence (The Invisible Man, Last Night in Soho). The sort of film everyone will watch and think "yeah, it's a decent film.". Non-Horror fans can enjoy it. But these films aren't gonna' make it on lists of the greatest Horror films of all time. Their high ratings are due to broad appeal and good production values. A lack of flaws and issues rather than through brilliance.
This may well settle on a higher rating than Sinister but make no mistake about it, amongst Horror diehards Sinister will be much more beloved than this solid but nothing special flick.
