Don't cry in front of the Mexicans
...probably the funniest line in the movie.
Btw. I wonder if the crappy song the hippy girls were singing early in the movie was a Manson song?

There are a lot of funny lines in this film, including that one. I enjoy all of Brad Pitt’s LSD infused musings towards the end, when he’s confronting the Manson punks.
And yes, I do think it can be inferred that the song the girls are singing is a Manson song, within the world of the film, but not sure if it’s an actual song in reality.
Charlie Says (2018) was an interesting take on the Manson ‘Family’ as well.
The Family was just a bunch of teen runaway addicts lorded over by a worm career criminal. It’s one of those crazy, tragic stories.
The book by Vincent Bugliosi called ‘Helter Skelter’ is a real trip to read, he was the county prosecutor for the Tate-LaBianca massacres, he sent all of those maniacs to prison. It’s a real nightmare inducing book.
According to Tarrantino that book is bullshit. There are a couple of other books that he likes. He mentions them on Marc Maron's WTF podcast interview.
shareWell it is written from the POV of the prosecuting attorney. Does Tarantino dispute the facts mentioned in the book? or does he dislike the flow of it? What's his argument?
shareHe didn't really go into it. I suspect he disputes the facts. Most of the interview was about him.
Several weeks ago I caught the end part of a rerun of Dateline NBC about it all, and they said that earlier that summer someone in Manson's group was arrested for a gruesome murder and Manson was trying to give that guy sort of an alibi by doing copy cat murders to make the authorities think it might be someone else.
Manson was afraid that guy was going to rat him out for something, I think I recall.
Was any of that in Helter Skelter book?
Not that I remember- I read it in high school for a book report and that was many a moon ago. While I recall Bugliosi being cock-sure I assume he allowed for further illumination.
shareWhat's up what the fuck friend, what the fucker, what the fucketeer?
shareI very seldom download his podcast. I don't like the guy much. https://moviechat.org/nm0953262/Moon-Unit-Zappa/62dc5b5b0a1d6d1035742c88/Marc-Maron
shareOuch, I thought you might be a fellow fan.
You don't like him because he used to be Moon Zappa's boyfriend?
I recently watched newsreel footage of the Manson trial on YouTube, and low and behold one of the clips has some of the girls skipping arm in arm down the courtroom hall, singing “all is one all is one all is one.”
So yeah, Quentin did some research for this one.
Also, that sequence at the beginning with the girls singing always holds a heavy sense of dread whenever I watch this film, but seeing members of the actual Manson family do it was downright chilling.
