I know we're supposed to assume they all lived happily ever after, but isn't it logical to assume that Manson would just send other followers back at a later time to do the job?

I think that having them charcoal broiled and bludgeoned to death might have put a crimp in his style.
And I'm pretty sure the family would be getting a little visit after their identities were revealed (Manson and his followers all had records and were known to the authorities).
The brightest move the family might've made was to run and hide.

The police would almost certainly have gone straight to Spahn Ranch that same night.

Exactly, Cliff knew where they were and likely would have told the cops when being questioned.

Manson would have learned his minions failed when the cops raided the ranch.
