Nah, he already did that with Kill Bill.
With this film, he was poking fun at the pretence of actors. It reminds me of a 1995 Chinese movie called High Risk. It's a parody of action movies where the two main characters are a movie star and his bodyguard friend. The movie star is a Bruce Lee clone, right down to the Game of Death outfit that Uma Thurman had worn in Kill Bill.
