Hollywood can't seem to get over the 1980's...

One of if not the best era (imo as well as being born around that time along with the early 1990's) of great American cinema (movies and music; excluding fashion) and some from culture (although it's being destroyed by recent franchise reboots and/or sequels). So many 1980's setting shows from Stranger Things to IT movie to Weekend's latest album to xfinity E.T. commercial ad and the likes. Even the poster cover has a Thor: Ragnarok vibe to it and 80's electronic music.

In the 70s people loved the 50s, it's the way it goes. Lots of people never like "now" but they think they liked the past, which sucked too, lol.

Movie plots also suffer from cellphones, I have read. Mysteries and thrillers have been hurt by cellphones because they eliminate danger, can warn others, and so they screw up tension. Setting stories before them is a good way to solve this problem and increase plot options.

They like the past because they only remmeber the good parts. All eras sucked.

Not just Hollywood, but also TV (shows like The Goldbergs, and heavy references like in Family Guy).
I think, like others have mentioned, it's to do with the age of the writers and execs.
But I've started to see more and more 90's references in the past few years.

Agree its probably for that reason. Altough i think the 80s has a so unique style that it will always be referencered.

It's gotta be something in the music.
I was on vacation in the US last year, and in NY I noticed that in almost every single store that I entered, the background music 80's.

I was born in the early 1990s, but the late 1960s through early 1980s (roughly 1966-1982) seem to be the best era for movies and music.
