Reason for not showing Dr. Manhattan's face?

Thought it was odd they never showed his face while in his original blue form, only after he morphed into Cal.

Reasons?

probably to avoid the inconsistency of not looking like the actor from the movie

I think they didn't want another face to compete with Cal's. After he becomes Cal- we are allowed to see his face, but only Cal.
