I imagine that whatever distributor picked this up after Sundance may be waiting to release it around Halloween. They’ve had a lot of time to release it on VOD. I wana see it so bad.

Just found this on ew.com:

“It was announced Thursday that RLJE Films has acquired all U.S. rights to the Nicolas Cage-starring action-thriller Mandy, and that the company plans to release the already semi-notorious film this summer.”

So I hope that happens. Would feel better if they had a more specific date locked down but it’s on the way!

Did you end up seeing it? I had a friend dl it for me. I started it, but haven’t had time to watch more than a few minutes.

There was a lot going on - cult leader, mutants and even animation. The ending scene also added a sci-fi element to it. So I was a bit confused about the movie. Reminded me a bit of Blue Velvet which was a bit esoteric. I do predict it will become a cult classic of sorts. My rating would be 6.5/10.

There was definitely a lot going on, and I would be lost for words if someone were to ask me to describe the plot. I would say something along the lines of: "There's a scene where Nic Cage chugs a bottle of vodka in his underwear and yells. It's amazing." Also the part where Linus Roach does a monologue into the mirror - you know the one - is absolutely mesmerizing. It's a bit like Blue Velvet in its weirdness, but Mandy is one of those movies that lingers because of its psychic pleasures.

His monologue in the mirror was kinda cool but I swear I almost press ffw for his "Im the Chosen One Speech". It kept going and going and goind and I kept wanting him to stop and stop and stop!!
