Christina is dragged into the river, but almost immediately after, jumps out. Her “invulnerability” was always going to allow her to survive. This brutality can’t affect her in the same way. We see her crying after, clutching at her Mark of Cain. Does she finally feel something? Does she realize that she never will?

Christina. She has hired two men to attack her in a manner similar to how Emmett Till was tortured and killed, including wrapping her neck in barbed wire and throwing her into the lake. Her magic protects her and she is able to climb up onto the dock, where she first sobs, and then perhaps laughs at the feeling of being alive. Did Ruby’s harangue leave her with genuine guilt over what Emmett endured — or, at least, curiosity? Is she suffering for her mystical art in some way we don’t yet understand? Christina remains a mysterious figure, though we know she feels some emotion. (Her interest in Ruby, for instance, seems to run deeper than just using her to get to Leti and Tic.)
Perhaps we’ll get more of an explanation next week, or perhaps this will be yet another Lovecraft moment we’re meant to feel without fully understanding.
She can cosplay black suffering, but she can’t truly experience it, because her privilege protects her.
Thing is personally I don’t think white, black has anything to do with it. She just wanted to be able to empathize or at least try to. Same goes for you & me. Not that I believe you’re a cold hearted person, not that I am but we can only empathize so much to everything that’s happening right now as in George Floyd, etc. Do I care? Uh yeah I guess, but I can only care so much.
Well I don’t judge Christina for saying “No” she didn’t” she was being honest. Can we really expect her or anyone else to?
It’s not like she’s inhuman, she does have feelings for Ruby, so she’s emotional in some aspects but not in others. By condemning her, I’d have to condemn myself. You know what I’m saying?
Yes and no to your question Jeep, because this CHRISTINA character and what MOTIVATES her to behave the way that she does is a VERY DIFFICULT situation to try to comprehend.
Here's some questions as a way to try to ILLUSTRATE what one means:
--Did she try to DIE as a way to try to please RUBY???
--Did she do it as a way to see if the MAGIC SPELL would work or not???
--Was that the first time she's DIED?
--And What exactly does it mean to BE DEAD when both she and LETI are both ALIVE AGAIN after having DIED (due to using the MAGIC to bring them back to life again)???
--And Didn't LETI also tell TIC that she didn't FEEL the same anymore after she DIED, and that buying the HOUSE was a way to try to FEEL ALIVE again???
So maybe IF Christina also DIED before she hired them to KILL HER she may FEEL even MORE CONFUSED and EMPTY INSIDE than LETI who's only DIED that ONE TIME???

What is Christina Braithwaite really after?
If Christina has already learned to conquer death, what would be the point of going through with an immortality ritual? Christina’s mysterious and seemingly shady disposition makes the possibilities seem endless especially since she might be eviler than she seems.
Nevertheless, there are a few obvious ways that Christina’s endgame can play out. Maybe Tic’s son doesn’t have his facts straight in his novel or he purposely changed what happened in his stories. It wouldn’t be a far off idea considering that Tic already told his dad that his son changed many details in his novel.
Another possibility is that Christina has only been practicing a temporary spell for immortality and is looking to permanently live forever. Either way, Christina’s success is going to depend on Tic’s ability to stop her from tricking him into a position he won’t survive. The worst part is that Tic and the gang have five days to figure this stuff out
So what do you think JEEP???
