The existence of Roseanne's book in the continuity allows for them to always pass it off as "Well Darlene could have been impregnated with Harris later than originally thought and Roseanne just changed it for her book."
Unfortunately, now that the book has been kept (somewhat) within canon, we'll forever be left wondering just how much of seasons 1-9 were "real" and how much was just "fiction".
We know that almost all of Season 9 was book-only, save for Harris but now I guess we have to include Darlene and David's wedding into the book because the whole reason they married when they did was because she was pregnant with Harris. Season 8 was mid-90s. This would require Harris' actual birth to take place in 2002-2003.
The existence of Roseanne's book throws everything out of whack. Dan now is actually alive and it turns out that the spouse swaps, Dan's death, Bev being gay, etc were all just a part Roseanne's book as well.
