WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE - SPOILERS REVEALED

In his "Glass Spoilers" video, Jeremy Jahns makes a good point. Water, in Unbreakable, may make David Dunn vulnerable but it does not weaken him to the point of his being unable to defend himself (as was the case in Glass).

The final fate of David Dunn didn't really make sense. Earlier in "Glass" when he is fighting The Beast in the water tank, he is still incredibly strong and is able to fracture and break the tank by punching it through the resistance of the water. No normal or weak human could have broken that tank. To be honest, I was hoping that a twist in "Glass" would be that David had gotten over his fear and weakness of water and was allowing himself to be held prisoner while he figured out what was going on. Alas, it didn't happen that way.

reply

Exactly, spot on. I was thinking he'd realize that it all stemmed from that one bad memory, he'd realize that his only weakness was his believing that he had a weakness. And he'd rise from the water like some kind of wet pheonix and start punching the bajeesus out of stuff.
Kind of seemed to just fizzle out there instead, which was disappointing.

Very good point. Even if he freaks out in water and drowns like a dummy, he'd still be able to get free of that flimsy grip the guy had on him. At the end he looks so incompetent that you'd think he'd drown in the shower much earlier in his life.

I get they wanted to kill him, fine. At least do it in a more believable way. Maybe have him drown in the water tank by the beast. The beast could still be shot anyway after so nothing would change.

Maybe (just maybe), that secret society is also comprised of super humans or at least has some at their disposal. So it's not impossible that this "guy" also was a bit stronger than it would seem.

What I have a problem with is, that all of this played in a small area. And yet Dunn's son didn't watch him getting drowned and tried to intervene? (Speaking of "not doing sh*t" Glass' mother also didn't come for his sons help and simply stood by.) I think that was the most unbelievable part of that whole scene(s) for me. There were people who cared and yet did do nothing. Conveniently, the camera usually only showed the dying/hurt hero/villain while the wide angle shots revealed that all other people would or should have been near by.

I kinda doubt they were super humans because they never once tried to recruit Dunn. They seemed pretty anti super humans, regardless of their personalities. But yeah, it's possible.

Not to defend that shit ending but i'm pretty sure the swat guys took the civilians away, behind a van or something so they couldn't see. No quite sure, there weren't any wide shots of the whole area to know who was where.

Moments after he nearly drowned he was put back in the water and I suppose he was unable to break free from his killer’s grip because fighting The Beast (Dunn finally met his match) in the water tank clearly took a lot out of him. One can say breaking through the tank was all the fight Dunn had left in him — at least until he was able to recover. And to be fair, Dunn was noticeably having a hard time trying to recover after nearly being choked out by The Beast in the water tank.... then before you knew it he was dragged back into the water. As such, we’re supposed to believe that Dunn became THAT powerless.

But believable way to get killed or not, it is frustrating and puzzling to see David be completely helpless when it feels like there was something he could have done. We got Shyamalan’d!

reply

Shyamalan seems to like the idea of something powerful being taken down by water. David Dunne survives a train crash that nobody should have survived yet water is his weakness. Aliens have the ability to travel trillions and trillions of miles yet water is their weakness. Shyamalan just has a weird relationship with water I guess.

Any waterbending oddities in Last Airbender?

I skipped that one. It was a smart move from what I hear. lol.

Oh and in Sixth Sense, too.
