Aircraft that operate in those areas all carry Emergency Locator Beacons. In the real world there would be a massive search and rescue effort to locate the missing aircraft. Polar bears do not hang out in the mountains - there is not food there. They live on and near the water.

It's probably a good point to keep in mind how disrespectful movies are in general of facts and reality. They seem to go way out of their way and to all possible lengths to stay in the mindnumbingly stupid zone.
