...are proof we descended from primates and actually might be closer to them than we expected.
I get most films are woke or politically correct or left leaning or whatever, but how is some random Korean film that has NOTHING to do with race (plot wise) a “woke” movie? Because it stars non-white people? That’s ridiculous. So now even foreign films in Asian countries must star white folk to not be considered leftist libtard SWJ-pandering propaganda? Parasite is a masterpiece and absolutely 0% of that has to do with the race of its actors and characters. If they were white, black, middle eastern, Hawaiian, whatever, it’d still be a brilliantly written and directed commentary on social class.
Do you remember the scene where the family discussed how money "irons out" your problems? When you're wealthy there's no need for resentment. The poor family knew they were assholes but also knew it was the only way for them to get ahead. I swear some of these comments seem like you guys completely missed the message of the entire film...
Yes, but that is a fallacy also. There are lots of rich people who are assholes. Class doesn't make you an asshole, a moral compass does. Just because something is discussed in a movie, doesn't necessarily mean that the writer/director is trying to make a statement. Art is subjective for the most part and you will take away from it what you will.
Class doesn't make you an asshole, a moral compass does.
Wow, this statement is very telling of your privilege. If you think poor people don't break laws out of desperation vs. morality then you really need to spend some time around truly impoverished people. They don't want to be assholes, they just want to eat.

Oh please. You know nothing about me and what I've been through in my life. Go peddle that shit about "privilege" somewhere else. There are many poor people who don't have to resort to crime and I was one of them. Bye!
Actually research shows that the rich are less empathetic and more selfish. A quick google search will give you a bunch of studies...plus also (provided you haven't been living in a bubble), life experience sort of confirms this too.
Not sure how Marxism fits in here.
Just finished reading "Kritik der politischen Ökonomie". Don't be afraid, it's less about society than you might think. It's a good read and if you were not bored by the works of Schumpeter, Böhm-Bawerk or maybe Keynes, you'll be surprised by his playful language. There's only one big issue: It doesn't translate. Neither to other languages nor to a living society (which his works actually are not about).
Oh, I'm a dumb ape? well, you're kind of an idiot.
how is some random Korean film that has NOTHING to do with race (plot wise) a “woke” movie?
Because out of all the other movies that could have been selected for extreme promotion by both Cannes and Hollywood, they chose Parasite: an all-Korean, pro-socialist movie that isn't very good.
Hollywood has a leftist agenda. Displacing white people in positions of prominence, and promoting socialism, are parts of that agenda. Parasite's promotion by the media juggernaut in America displaces what are usually whites in prominent American entertainment (AND isn't very good -- that's why Crouching Tiger would get a pass). And Parasite's plot appears to be a pro-socialist allegory.
So now even foreign films in Asian countries must star white folk to not be considered leftist libtard SWJ-pandering propaganda?
No one thinks that. To even ask that question in that way is a little retarded. It was used by Hollywood as a tool for the SJW agenda over here in America. Without Hollywood's intervention, Parasite would have stayed where it belongs: a silly pro-socialist movie-of-the-week that made a shitton of money over in Korea.
Parasite is an assterpiece ) )
^fixed that for you.
You know, you can disagree with me. You can say I'm stupid and that i'm crazy until you're blue in the face, but these are valid reasons for me to think what I think whether you or anyone likes it or not.
The problem is that you can read SJW into anything, absolutely ANYTHING. And that problem is compounded by countless people on these forums that do exactly that...and they're rarely called on for it.
Someone claims something is SJW propaganda and a dozen heads bob in agreement...because people like to believe that they get it too...that they're clever. Nothing gets past these guys, they don't fall in for all this SJW nonsense like everybody else, they understand, see.
Anyway, you don't seem to be giving any reasons for your own perspective other than just the argument itself...your post seems to read like one big, "Yuh huh, is too propaganda!", but what is it about the plot itself that makes you think so?
Because I would think that if it were propaganda, the poor family would've been portrayed in a wholly sympathetic light, have been made easy to root for. Instead they were portrayed as utterly ruthless...they didn't care who they hurt in order to get what they wanted. These were not earnest, honest people....quite the opposite, in fact. The movie is frigging called "Parasite", for criminy's sake.
Yet, the chorus begins again, just as it does with every other frigging movie, people hollering about SJW this and that, socialist propaganda etc and IMO you guys look ridiculous...just fricking SCRAMBLING to find something you can point at with, "Look what I found!" because damnit...you're not like those other sheep, you see through this stuff! And that's what its about, IMO. You. And personally, I'm tired of reading about you.
This whole "I see SJW" thing...there's not been anything special or unique about it for the longest time now...hell, its become the damn default perspective...virtually EVERYTHING is SJW, even if people have to bend over backwards in twisting the plot to fit that narrative. Its infected this forum for years now, has long become boring as hell and truth be told, its because its fucken boring.
You guys have the same tired, unimaginative shtick for every other movie...its nothing new, its certainly not entertaining to read about how clever you are...get a new groove, you know? Find something worthwhile to get worked up about, channel your energy/disdain into virtually ANYTHING else and maybe it'll have a chance of serving some constructive purpose. That's my take anyway.
Forums were a lot more fun back before everyone turned to proving how clever they were.
The problem is that you can read SJW into anything, absolutely ANYTHING. And that problem is compounded by countless people on these forums that do exactly that...and they're rarely called on for it.
That doesn't make sense. The word "SJW" lives in the public consciousness because it's a well-deserved pejorative for the consistent and tiresome leftist narratives in the media like obligatory sexual deviants, minorities, women being infallible and only being kept down by the "patriarchy," men being stupid or inferior, pro-communism, pro-illegal-immigrant, anti-guns.
Nothing gets past these guys, they don't fall in for all this SJW nonsense like everybody else, they understand, see.
Yes, I am more clever than you, if you really think "SJW" is a term that's not based on anything real.
Anyway, you don't seem to be giving any reasons for your own perspective other than just the argument itself...your post seems to read like one big, "Yuh huh, is too propaganda!", but what is it about the plot itself that makes you think so?...
The rest is all just a retarded and offensive disregard of the explanations I've already made. If they are incomprehensible to you, then that's your problem. Anyone who thinks there is no agenda or narrative in the media is an idiot. That is not my opinion, that is a fact.

Yet in the end, its all about perspective...subjectivity. And your crew heavily leans into it...you guys read it into everything.
Like look...I just got done explaining that, pretty decently I thought...and you come back with, "If you don't think SJW agenda exists, etc"
Dude...that wasn't....what? How in the world did you get that out of my post? The answer is, of course, that you didn't. But its an argument for you...an easy one, and you leapt on it. It might not mean much to you, but to me it says that you're arguing for the sake of being right, and you'll use any means to that end. Which, coincidentally or not, ties in nicely with the personality I describe above.
Yes, of course I believe there's an agenda, but agendas are everywhere...everyone has one. Pointing out an agenda doesn't make you clever...being able to argue as to why its wrong-minded might, but it doesn't just stop at pointing the finger. And if that's all you're doing...you're just kind of wanking yourself off...like its just become confirmation bias.
The way we're going...we can be surrounded by elites living in Skyscrapers while we live in dumpsters...and those in the dumpsters will still be proud they caught some "SJW" propaganda. Can't fool these guys!
Anyway, as you noted, it was all about class. But that means poor vs rich people, and that means libruls, and therefore SJW stuff that needs to be rabbled about.
I wonder where the line is though, you know? What if it was a movie about some third world country where the ruling class lived in luxury while the people struggled to eek out a living. Do people still scream SJW when the discrepancy is put to film? And if so, what's their point? Should the movie not have been made then? Would they rather not have heard the message at all?
No, I think people mostly just think about themselves and want to consider themselves 'in the know', so...message be damned, they won't see it through the trees, since the trees are all that really matter to them.
The progressivism that Hollywood promotes is not just about race, it is also about empathy for the poor.
I am not saying that that is a bad thing. But you CAN show the other side, and not paint the rich as some snobby elites.
Let me know when Hollywood produces a positive movie about American exceptionalism in the business world. Or a positive one about a hard working, ambtious business self starter and the trials they go through.
Some people who comment on this obviously didn't see the movie, because the rich people are somewhat decent, while the poor family are horrible people. Watch the movie and then comment on it.
The only negative aspect of the rich people in this movie was that they disliked the smell of the poor people. That was literally it. They were never painted as being snobby. You need to re-watch the movie (while reading the subtitles this time).
Also you won't find positive movies about "American exceptionalism" because in order to accumulate wealth you have to do negative things along the way. Every millionaire is proud of how they made their first million but none will go into detail about how they made their second.
It's true that he disliked the smell of poor people, but the whole point was that his dislike for the poor was totally justified when one of the poor murders him in front of his family. So, as awful as it is, the film's portraying a dark sense of irony in justifying his classist views. He wanted him and his family to stay away from the poor, and he would've survived had he done just that. Just another deeply layered point in this flawless film.
It appears you missed the point of the movie. The upperclass ARE portrayed as positive and honest people, while the lowerclass are the parasites leaching off of the upperclass.
Strong words but, yeah I just saw it this week and LOVED it. It's the kind of dark comedy satire that Hollywood should be able to make but is too afraid. And you said it right, the movie is about class warfare at the end- a universal construct. And the movie makes a great case to see either the Kims or the Parks as the heroes or the villains.
Of course it did. I remember the year after Hollywood was accused of being anti black at the Oscars, and people protested, etc. The next year it was LOADED with black heavy academy awards. That seems pretty clear that the quality of the movies is second to filling in the race requirements.
