[Discussion] Alternate casting choices? (mild spoilers)
First off don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all the casting choices in the movie, and I think all of them performed brilliantly. But just to explore the possibilities, what are some alternate ones that Nolan could have gone with? (note I'm a bit inclined to go with past Nolan casts - he also tend to - but others are fine as well so keep the suggestions going). Doesn't necessarily need to be "better" (subjective), just a new breath of fresh air or different take on the role could be interesting enough. So here goes from me:
The Protagonist: Could Leonardo DiCaprio or Matthew McConaughey nail the role? (I go with these two first because this movie is, in a sense, essentially a heist movie similar to those) I can imagine DiCaprio handle the action sequences quite nicely, but not sure about the more close up emotional ones (like the facial expression during the torturing on the railway scene).
Neil: The closest I could think of is maybe Cillian Murphy? (at least facial shape -wise) Could Joseph Gordon-Levitt work? He might look a bit young but the acting can be convincing.
Kat: No clear name comes to mind (at least among past Nolan cast). Not sure if Marion Cotillard fits the looks. Any non-Nolan suggestions?
Ives: not gonna lie, there are shots in the movie that makes me almost sure that it was Tom Hardy playing the role (except for the voice), so that's a strong contender.
Priya: not that many Indian actresses I know of, so up to you guys here. Maybe one that is non-Indian but has the looks can still work?
Sir Michael Crosby: Sir Michael Cain is a natural choice. The only other frequent "old wise man" role Nolan has is Morgan Freeman, but not sure if he would work here.
Sator: as Nolan movies don't usually have any "real" or "big" villains in the past (except The Dark Knight series), there could be many interesting choices here (save for the russian accent). Could typical villain castings like Mads Mikkelsen or Christoph Waltz work? Maybe even some more complex ones like Benedict Cumberbatch?
Any discussion is welcome (please mark major spoilers appropriately), cheers!
