How woke is this movie?
Well I expect some form of indoctrination as it's a kids movie.
shareIt's not woke at all.
Some people have a mild annoyance at the princess being familiar with the features of the world she grew up in, but that didn't other me.
Take Mushroom kingdom and all the Toads, I know some people were expecting poc/trans/pride Toads or whatever but they were all just the same as the games.
I didn't think it was woke either.
Still, I'm a girl and I didn't like the characterization of Peach in this movie. It wasn't the worst thing, but I didn't care for it either. They stayed very true to the original games, but strayed very far from the way Peach is supposed to be. She's supposed to be much more feminine than portrayed here. I seriously doubt people would have had as much of a problem if it was an original character (then again, people always find something to be upset about.)
Just saw it today, there's nothing woke in it at all. I think just the fact that Peach is still allowed to be white and blonde is impressive in itself.
shareI don't know what's woke or not, but the film certainly pushes a message. Despite being called "Mario Brothers," the film barely features the brothers, and Princess Peach is the clear star of the film. Luigi spends nearly the entire film locked in a cage, and has barely any screen-time. A much more sensible, and realistic, film would have had Peach locked in the cage while Mario and Luigi adventured towards her rescue, but not in 2023.
Mario plays second fiddle to Princess Peach, watching her easily defeat anyone in her path, and at most times seems like a secondary character. Even the big bad guy Bowser is no match for Peach. He's in love with her, and tries to force her into marriage. Does she need rescuing at the altar? Nope, she's ready to stand her ground and easily defeats Bowser without any aid from Mario. Does she choose Mario instead? Nope, he's just her pitiful, platonic sidekick, struggling to accomplish with practice what she was able to easily do on one try.
The film is absolutely shoving a political narrative down the throats of the children who watch it, at the expense of the story.
you mean like ripley in aliens?
luigi always was a minor sidecharacter (just the brother) and the dreamteam of the movie is mario/donkey kong.
No, nothing like Ripley in Aliens at all.
shareDoes she need rescuing? Nope, she's ready to stand her ground and easily defeats Aliens without any aid
shareI don't see any similarity between the two.
Aliens is the story of Ripley vs. some aliens. She wins. Had the movie been called Predators vs. Aliens, and two Predators showed up, one of whom was immediately captured, and the other was inept, and Ripley mocked him and demonstrated her superiority at every turn while the remaining Predator lollygagged behind her in awe of her skills while constantly making a fool of himself, you would be onto something.
Ripley needed rescuing twice, first when she and Newt were stuck in a room with two facehuggers, then again by Bishop after she herself rescued Newt from the nest. She barely fought and when she did, she struggled.
Not to mention that throughout the film, she was traumatized from the events of the first movie.
What “Aliens” film did you watch?
I love seeing you guys get upset. You guys are stuck in the 1800's.

How is Peach the clear star of the movie?
sharenot woke at all
shareThe race track was the color of the rainbow. I bet De Santis supporters were fuming.
shareNot at all. Peach takes a more active role in stopping Bowser but Mario is still the main hero.
shareYou could argue that the lack of a thick Italian accent for Mario is kind of "woke". But that is about it.
shareSuper woke! It broke all the records!
