To be fair, I imagine three of those kids were there before whatever happened and produced those monsters. Then one dies so they probably try to fill good by having another. Is it smart? Absolutely not, but it makes sense if you factor in human emotions. Also as far as they're aware, they found a way to keep on living in this world that worked for them for the most part. The part about sex is easy though. They just have to do it by the waterfall.
