Slow but good
Yes, it was slow. But it was interesting in the way it slowly peeled away some layers and revealed little tidbits naturally without contrived exposition. And it built up at a good pace, with a frightening payoff.

shareFine I'll check it out.
shareThis has been on my radar for a bit. Thanks for tipping the scales.
shareJust finished it. Solid 7/10 for me; might go higher after some pondering. Original story, nice ratcheting up of tensions between the well-acted characters. Loved the satisfying yet open-ended ending.
Since it was filmed in Newfoundland and Labrador, part of me wishes everyone had Newfie accents. Would have made the line "They sound like us." more poignant.
I'd think fans of this would enjoy De uskyldige [The Innocents] (2021).
Yes, I agree about The Innocents - I saw it a couple of years ago and really liked it. That was more intense than this, similar tone and vibes. I just watched Handling the Undead - Håndtering av udøde (2024) - which I would add here.
shareI've revisited The Innocents at least twice, and it has held up nicely. Kudos to the director for casting/directing child actors who not only aren't annoying in the slightest, but can actually act!
Takk for the rec!
Yeah, it was reeeally good! 9/10 for me, but I'm really into island cult type films, so maybe not for everyone else. :-)
