Mel I have missed you!

Saw this excellent crime film last night and was so grateful to witness a film maker eschewing the traditional rules of the action/crime genre in favour of gentle pacing that so effectively builds to the explosive finale. This Zahler guy is fast becoming one of my most favourite modern directors.

Also mighty satisfying to see Gibson front and centre in an intelligent, impeccably made film again. I wonder if anyone else noticed the parallel between his character’s public downfall and his own brush with cancel culture? Especially in the scene with Don Johnson where they discuss the public’s demand of tolerance leading to intolerant outcomes? I thought that was a clever and knowing nod by Zahler for his maligned leading man.

I did have a few issues with the coda which stretched believability, but overall this was right up my alley. Can’t wait to see what Zahler comes up with next.

Agreed on all points

Zahler has demonstrated great command of horror, action and thriller material so far...can't wait for his next work

Still waiting... Been meaning to pick up some of his books to tide me over while his scripts languish in development.

i agree too.
zahler has become a big favourite of mine as well, though (as i just posted in another thread here) i think there was absolutely no need for this movie to be so long.
i hope he works at tightening up his running times going forward.
but at the same time, i will be there waiting for whatever he does next.

Lol just my feelings. I switched on this movie, expecting nothing, just a friend recommended it to me. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Mel. Looking good too. Older but great. He's not too old for this shit.
