Tried too hard to replicate the True Detective 2 tempo/storytelling. Equally as boring. This sh*t did NOT need to be 2 hrs 40 mins. Why do movies need to be 85 mins or 2 hrs and 40 mins? Some are too short and missing character building. Some are too long, pretentious and drag for no reason. This was one of those times. Make this 1 hr 50 mins and you have a MUCH BETTER film.

I think the slow pace of the first half of the movie is to have a "slow burn" effect, to lull the audience, making the sudden escalation of horrifying violence all the more shocking. I won't say it's a bad film but a bit too nihilistic for my taste.
