He could easily still be alive and Dani would still be the new target.
True however they would be to many characters and he would be type useless not to mention I doubt they would hire Edward furlong since he is fat and still looks like a drug addicted so rather them kill him off then replace him with a actor that looked nth like him

shareThey easily could have replaced him as this movie is set many years later and it's been done in shitloads of other movies.
Or they simply make it that they take a page from T3 and have it so John stayed under the radar and went into hiding, especially after everything that happened in T2.
His mum splits from him because she never feels the battle will be over, and lets her name pop up every now and then so if anything does come back, she potentially gets targeted rather than john.
She keeps her ear to the ground though about any information and thats how she gets involved in this movie. She hears about stuff going down and sounds like another terminator so she goes after it.
If they want Arnold to be a part of it, he's Johns personal bodyguard from the future that has been with him for years and is the only one of his kind, he is sent back to help protect the new leader of this new resistance that is fighting against the new version of skynet as the future changed enough that John is like a 2nd in command or specilist or something.
John doesn't need to stay being the leader, he was the big threat to Skynet. Skynet lost. So someone else could be the new head for the next resistance that is fighting against this different threat.
IN THIS TIMELINE JOHN WOULD BE LEADING THE RESISTANCE RIGHT NOW....WITH THAT FUTURE OFF THE TABLE.THANK YOU T2.JOHN AND THE GROSS METH HEAD WHO PLAYED HIM ARE TOTALLY UNNECESARY,REGARDLESS OF WHAT QUALITY FILM THEY ENDED UP PRODUCING.WITH HIM NOT NEEDED FOR THE FUTURE,HIDING OUT MAKES NO SENSE.ALSO RECASTING THE CHARACTER AGAIN IS JUST TERRIBLE...THEY MADE THE RIGHT CALL ON JOHN CONNOR.
