"He ever had any?"

"......Once."

Morbid, yet brilliant.

once is better than never. maybe.

I think the subtext, after he looked at him, was that his "once", was with Liam Nielson.

Once is enough fodder for the spank bank.

And that is a *wide* leap of logic you are inferring from a glance. Unless you mean "with" as in "in the company of" and not "inside me." I took it as Neeson once tried to get him laid, but it was a disaster.

It's interesting how you interpret my assumption as a wide leap considering what we see of Neeson's character throughout the segment.

He rushes the artist when he's eating. He doesn't have him near the fire at night. He doesn't even engage in conversation with him. He is morally bankrupt. He doesn't view the artist as a person, he views him as a tool for his needs. The artist is a means for money, a means for sexual gratification and, in the end, an object to be used to determine how deep the water is. As we see a blatant disregard for the artist throughout the segment, it really isn't a wide leap to assume he wouldn't use him as a sexual object.

The segment was truly just showcasing how unfortunate the artist's life was.

it truly does show the horror of powerlessness, in general - in many particulars, which can as well be reasonable imagined, or even remembered.

i just have to think back to when i was small when young vs when i grew up. the hazards dissipated.

just like in the rest of the animal world.

@fandango You must be coming from a very strange personal space if you saw that.

Neeson seemed very embarrassed when helping the artist with his toilet after the feeding scene, and also when he was about to have sex with the prostitute. If he had previously used the artist sexually he would not have been. I agree with Nanook below. Neeson once tried to get the artist laid in a cathouse, but it probably ended up very badly. Probably because the artist was so sensitive and genteel.

I guess this speaks to the nature of subjective viewer experience—everyone has their own interpretation.
