100% real

This is a great show that's 100% real.

Everyone on here who claims it's fake is misinformed on how law enforcement operates and how shows are filmed/edited.

Nothing fake about the show at all. The editing is bad but that's all.

PS: Also... Anyone who thinks this is fake needs to read the rules of the show to see how it's done. You're only making yourself look stupid by calling it fake and giving reasons that are explained in the show.

Please cite your experience in both areas for us. While I have no experience in show filming and editing, I worked law enforcement patrol, investigation, and supervision for almost 30 years before retirement. I agree it's not fake- it's largely scripted. I've seen a number of things on this show that are inconsistent for what was advertised- a show about fugitives on the run being tracked down by teams using law enforcement techniques:

1. They use a lot of former military. Military and law enforcement have two very different tasks. For example, being a SEAL is great for certain missions, but it does not mean you can track a fugitive. The best fugitive hunter in the Marshal's Service would likewise be a poor choice to capture Bin Laden.

2. The information shown is unreal. Contestants clearly sign off on release of information. Getting phone data in real time takes time. I recall one case where it took 7 weeks to get phone records via subpoena. Banks do not give out surveillance data to anyone filming a TV show, since it would have all of their other customers on it.

3. As I've noted in several posts, the bus station apprehension was completely scripted. Try running around a place like that wearing a disguise carrying a backpack and see how long it takes for someone to try to stop you. The guy in Florida that shot up the airport is an example of what people and cops worry about in places like that, and a lot of us are on edge. I'll graphically illustrate what could happen if it was shot raw:
Guy and girl get off bus and the foot chase ensures. Police officer or armed citizen sees two big guys w/o badges or uniforms accosting the female and officer/citizen intervenes. One of them makes a quick move and is shot. While the bus terminal was in South Carolina, a lot of this takes place in Georgia, where it is legal to openly carry a gun. Show producers- and their insurance carriers- are not idiots. They take things like that into account and script the scene using actors and extras. That way they have total control over it. They also likely notify local police as to what they are doing in case someone calls in.

4. The "rules" were not clear to anyone that may have missed a few minutes of the show, and are unrealistic for actual fugitives- which is what was presented in the ads for the show.
The rules are here:
http://www.cbs.com/shows/hunted/news/1006425/these-are-the-rules-of-hunted/
We already know the new series follows nine teams of two who must go on the run and evade capture for 28 days, but just what else is involved?

These are the rules of the hunt:

Fugitives must stay within a 100,000-square mile hunt zone.
Fugitives will be given a one-hour head start before Hunters are alerted.
Fugitives are provided limited funds.
Command Center is given only a name, photo, and last known location.
Fugitives that evade capture win $250,000 per team.

5. Using well-established people as fugitives makes it much easier to track them down. Most of the wanted criminals I looked for had no last known address, no job, limited family, etc. All had a lot more than an hour head start as well. In fairness, cold cases were actually easier to work in some instances as the fugitives had let their guard down after establishing a new identity.

Great reply. It's clear that they had to recreate and stage things as well. And they say so at the end of the show. I didn't even think about the bus terminal situation. That easily could go wrong there if not everyone is on the same page. And actually that terminal was in Atlanta, GA. So that would be a big one.

Thanks, I stand corrected. For some reason I thought they were in Georgia going to SC, but now I recall it was the other way around.

I don't understand this show. In the last episode 2 guys were working for money at a foaf's farm, so couldn't anyone just get a bogus job from a friend, which would basically be borrowing money from them, and then go stay at a motel or something for 28 days?

The show just seems to be too scripted.

Hunter 1: Let's randomly go into these woods for no reason.
Hunter 2: Oh look, there they are!

The 2 hunters just decide on checking the woods near the house which also happens to be the exact place where the 2 idiots are 'hiding'? Seemed way too contrived.

2 guys thought that clearing their caches completely removes all traces from their computers? Let's not forget the first episode where the couple used the ATM at the bus station and then got on a bus at the same station. They knew using the ATM would immediately alert the investigation team to their whereabouts and their only idea for trying to elude them was to wear cheap wigs, which just made them stand out even more? Too much of the show comes off as being overly scripted nonsense.

Hunter 1: That lady was acting suspicious, I think she might be hiding something.
Hunter 2: Let's check around the property and see if we spooked anyone by our presence.

Explained... move on :p

reply

It was contrived as hell, and that's not how it went down.

Runner 1: They might be on to us, so let's leave the safety of the house and go out into the opening of the woods where we have no cover and can very easily be spotted by the road. Let's just stand here very still and maybe they'll mistake us for trees.
Runner 2: OK!

Hunter 1: Hey, let's go look in the woods because reasons.
Hunter 2: There they are!

Hunter 1: My years of law enforcement experience, are telling me something is up with this lady. I'm suspicious

Hunter 2: I agree: My same experience, tells me we should tool around the area, and see if we spooked someone into running.

reply

Were you the tall guy with the bad wig on this show or something?

Runner 1: Let's leave the house and stand somewhere where we can easily be spotted!

Hunter 1: Let's go look in the exact spot where these people are scripted to be standing like morons.

Reading your rather vigorous defenses of the program here, I checked your posting history. You just joined IMDB this month, and this is the only show you have posted about.

What are you? A writer, producer, or otherwise affiliated? Regardless of your official capacity, you can learn how to improve the show by reading comments here. It has a low rating for a reason. If you're affiliated with it, then make it better instead of insulting the people that have actually watched it.

i know there are strict rules from the game show commission and i know that law enforcement has some insanely sophisticated methods of tracking people, but still something about this show is off. it could be bad editing, but you will never be able to convince me that it is not at least suspicious and that all teams are being treated equally. it's super odd how they can track down the party boys to the middle of a marina from one tip, or the guys at a friend of a friend of a friend's farm down, while david and emily have spent all their time with close friends and in her hometown, but are still in it. something is off.

Limited funds, can only withdraw x amount/period so we have more changes of spotting you.
Yeah, totally real, i always do that when i am on the run, i get money from an atm every week as to notify the hunters about my location in a timely fashion..
I also always give permission to ransack my house and stuff when i'm on the run.
Shop camera's are instantly available and receipts for purchased products too.

So yeah, totally real, seriously, this is how it goes in real life, honest. lol
