As of ep3 here's my tips to avoid being tracked.

Dispose of all excess planning materials with fire or extreme shredding as soon as the plan is made or as you go along the planning is even better. (ruled against?)

Does putting a hard drive in a microwave/ near a really big magnet really work ? (too dangerous / ruled against?)

If you know about the hunt in advance and are planning why do these people NOT buy the burner phone then ? (ruled against?)

If using an atm after the activation leave the area in different direction to what your heading.

If using people you know in advance tell them to ignore/ hang up on any hunter/person asking about the hunted.

When planning ahead come up with a drastic huge image change hair style/colour and clothing that is baggy to hide your figure.

Don't insult or try to joke with hunters because they're so pro and cannot take any form of light banter.

Don't talk about being prepared by call of duty and owning bitches and then walk out of your home in flip flops...SERIOUSLY.

try to avoid butt dialing the hunters.

...and leave fake plans among your various notes, emails, and internet searches.

That way, you need not destroy a hard drive, but if you feel you must, just remove it from the device and strike it repeatedly with a sledge hammer or rock hammer.

Have a bug-out bag with everything you need in it. Include some camping and survival gear, clothes, high-calorie dry foods, first aid, bug repellant, and water purification tablets. Also maps of various areas you might go. Maybe a GPS unit (they emit no signal), and a burner phone turned off) just in case.

For a hefty prize, you can live on trout, peanuts, and pop tarts for 4 weeks.

 Live long and prosper.

Instead of trying to destroy a hard drive (likely against the rules anyway), it's probably possible to throw the hunters off quite a bit with internet activity before the game even begins. On your home computer, do a bunch of internet searches of campgrounds and state parks in Florida and then head to South Carolina. Send a bunch of fake e-mails to friends asking for help on certain dates who you don't ever intend to contact during the 28 days. Drop hints in Facebook comments that you'll be 'seeing someone soon' or 'might be heading your way' when you're doing exactly the opposite.

Then go to a public library to do any real research or e-mailing friends/family about where you're actually going and who is really going to help you.

I doubt if OP or anyone else would destroy their PC or phone. Also, if you are on social media, then the hunters are getting a lot of information from that.

Have you ever sent or received an email to anyone? Or made or received a phone call? That information is available to them since it's held elsewhere. Now they know your contacts. Are you sure that none of them will talk if they're bribed with a few dollars?

Are you going to burn your house down before leaving? There are photo albums, school yearbooks, letters, etc. How about your neighbors who may have seen you leaving? Any enemies or people who don't like you?

Disguises don't work with image recognition software. People on the run are nervous and nervous people make stupid mistakes.

I would try to hide for 28 days in my own house inside a hidden room behind a fake wall. LOL.
