One thing that surprised me.....

was the CGI.

These special effects people are getting better and better and some of the effects were so well done. Even things like exploding buildings look so much more realistic than just a few years ago, but the scenes with the lead villain and what that villain does were remarkable.

I agree, the villains hand in peoples heads was cool to look at. What I cannot accept this day in age though is when they crash through the bus and wolverine was basically an NPC (as I heard one person call him) That looked so bad. Also the mask on Wolverine looked bad at times. Deadpool's mask looked good, looked like a physical mask and I am sure it was. But Wolverine's looked horrible at times.

As for costumes and masks, one other interesting thing is when contrasting uniforms and masks in comics to those in live action, I think the more vibrant colors don't translate well to on-screen. It seems to me that the costumes with more subdued colors or with a matte finish seem to film better. However, this could be just a personal preference.

One last one, I wonder if those behind this movie also used it to excite long-time X-Men comic fans by having Jackman in one of the earliest Wolverine uniforms - sort of like in a way to keep older fans to keep following what they enjoyed about the comic.

Yes the hands through the head was really well done and creepy looking.
Wasn't overly impressed with her bald head though, just looked too smooth and perfect, but that's a pretty minor thing as the rest was very well done.
